Welcome back! I don’t know about you but this is my absolute favorite time of year, especially living in the midwest. The air starts to get cooler, the leaves turn bright reds, yellows and oranges and it’s totally acceptable to drink copious amounts of hot chocolate and chai tea lattes. And it just so happens to be flannel, [faux] leather jacket and boot wearing season! What more could you ask for? If you couldn’t tell I’m a bit excited. I love summer, but fall has a special place in my heart.
One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to go apple and pumpkin picking. I dragged Derek out of the house this weekend to take a mini day trip to a farm about two hours from our house. We were worried that it was a little late in the season (we are procrastinators by nature) and there wouldn’t be much left, but lucky for us that turned out not to be the case.
It was a gorgeous day to spend walking around an apple orchard. We even enjoyed the two-hour car ride with how beautiful it was outside. Some days I wish fall would last forever, but I think we appreciate things more when they are short-lived.
Isn’t it cool how the rotten apples and warty, bumpy pumpkins catch your eye? There’s one more weekend before Halloween so check out your surrounding area to see if there’s an orchard that offers apple picking. Here’s a great resource to check out if you’re not sure.
It can also be a great and inexpensive date idea. It will cost you the gas to get there and however much weight you can carry in pumpkins and apples! We may have gone just a wee bit overboard, so I’ll be making apple crisp, applesauce and anything else apple related I can think of over the next couple weeks so stay tuned for a couple of recipes!
Thanks for letting us share. love, adrienneWhat are your favorite things to do this time of year? We’d love to hear!
